il manto della volpe artica può essere bianco oppure blu. Si tratta di due varianti della stessa specie, due colorazioni che possono essere presenti anche nella stessa cucciolata. Come molti animali che vivono nel gelido Nord, le due varianti di colore cambiano entrambe la loro pelliccia tra l'estate e l'inverno. Non sono solo lo spessore e le proprietà isolanti a cambiare seguendo il ritmo delle stagioni, ma anche il colore. La variante blu è color carbone per tutto l'anno, e un po' più chiara durante l'inverno. propongo questa foto dove ho avuto la fortuna di immortalarla mentre fugge con il bottino ...una sostanziosa Uria nera catturata sulle scogliere delle Svalbard (Norvegia).
