Il morso delle vipere rappresenta una risorsa fondamentale per la loro sopravvivenza, questo consente infatti di inoculare, tramite i denti canalicolati, il veleno nelle prede, talvolta però se minacciate possono reagire mordendo eventuali aggressori, le vipere tendono sempre a fuggire di fronte a potenziali minacce tuttavia se messe alle strette, afferrate o calpestate reagiscono mordendo.
