I remember that night I was really undecided whether to go or not.
I had already done an inspection the day before to check the best shooting positions and had spent the day checking the weather and aurora forecast.
Reaching the east bank of Selfoss is a nice bang because the long track is in very bad condition and you drive at times at really slow speed. The part of the path is also decidedly longer than on the west side and you pass on large basalt blocks in a continuous climbs down.
But in my opinion the wild beauty of Selfoss and Dettifoss can only be fully grasped by the wild east side that even under normal conditions (no covid) is rather un frequented. Grazie ancora a tutti per i vostri commenti!
Ricordo che quella sera ero veramente indeciso se andare o meno.
Guidando verso la cascata appena dopo il tramonto c'era infatti un fronte nuvoloso molto ampio che sembrava non lasciare molto spazio alle mie speranze di aurora. Si intravedevano infatti le nubi pesanti avanzare nel chiarore del crepuscolo.
La voglia di tornare indietro evitandosi una notte fuori magari per nulla era piuttosto forte!
Avevo già fatto un sopralluogo il giorno prima per verificare le migliori posizioni di scatto ed avevo passato la giornata a controllare il meteo e le previsioni di aurora.
Raggiungere la sponda est di Selfoss è un bello sbattimento perchè la lunga pista è in condizioni pessime e si guida a tratti a velocità veramente lenta. Anche la parte di cammino è decisamente più lunga rispetto al lato ovest e si passa su grandi blocchi di basalto in un continuo sali scendi.
Ma secondo me la bellezza selvaggia di Selfoss e Dettifoss si può cogliere pienamente solo dal selvaggio lato est che anche in condizioni normali (no covid) è piuttosto poco frequentato.
Alla fine ho fatto benissimo a continuare perchè comunque l'esperienza di essere soli per quasi tutta la notte in un luogo così speciale me la porterò sicuramente con me (a prescindere dalle foto ovviamente) |
