il nucleo originario di Sanremo, fondata intorno all'anno mille, viene chiamato "Pigna" in quanto costituito da vicoli, passaggi coperti,abitazioni ammassati gli uni accanto agli altri per l'appunto come le squame di una pigna. Chiaramente, questa configurazione fu adottata a scopo difensivo, sopratuto contro le scorrerie dei pirati ma non solo; una delle particolarità del nucleo strorico della città e che credo lo renda unico, è che molti vicoli in realtà sono corridoi, coperti e direi quasi inglobati dalle abitazioni soprastanti. Alla "Pigna" si accede dalla Porta di Santo Stefano, raccordo tra la città vecchia e quella nuova e una visita alla bella città ligure, sede del famoso Festival, non può dirsi completa senza una visita alla bellissima e caratteristica (e per certi versi unica) "Pigna".
