La bandiera del Piemonte illuminerà per un'intera settimana, da sabato 18 a domenica 26 luglio, la Sacra di San Michele, monumento simbolo della Regione. Un'iniziativa che nasce nell'ambito dei festeggiamenti organizzati per il 50° anniversario dell'istituzione della Regione Piemonte e che vuole essere l'occasione per ritrovare un sentire comune attorno ad un simbolo di identità e coesione: il Drapò. La scelta della data non è casuale. Il 19 luglio 1747, infatti, ebbe luogo la Battaglia dell'Assietta, durante la quale l'esercito sabaudo respinse l'assalto delle truppe francesi. Sempre durante i combattimenti all'Assietta nacque il mito dei piemontesi “bogianen” che si rifiutarono di abbandonare le loro posizioni e continuarono la battaglia fino alla vittoria.
