Domenica mattina, giugno 2020: ore 10,30, ecco lo spettacolo di una piazza della Rotonda deserta. Niente carozzelle, né militari, e meno che meno turisti. È stato bello fotografare il Pantheon in tutto il suo superbo splendore, ma anche triste. Speriamo che tutto torni come prima al più presto -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Il Pantheon è, nell'itinerario di qualsiasi turista che arriva nella Città Eterna. Ma quali sono le sue origini? È situato nel rione Pigna, nel cuore del centro storico, venne fondato nel 27 a.C. dall'arpinate Marco Vipsiano Agrippa, genero di Augusto, il quale affidò la realizzazione a Lucio Cocceio Aucto per un tempio dedicato a tutte le divinità passate, presenti e future. Dopo che gli incendi dell'80 e del 110 d.C. avevano danneggiato la costruzione originale di età augustea, l'imperatore Adriano lo fece ricostruire tra il 120 e il 124 d.C.. I capitelli erano realizzati in bronzo e la decorazione comprendeva delle cariatidi e delle statue frontonali. La struttura del Pantheon voluto da Adriano è circolare, unita ad un portico in colonne corinzie (otto frontali e due gruppi di quattro in seconda e terza fila) che sorreggono un frontone triangolare. Nella ricostruzione, fu riportata l'iscrizione originale di dedica dell'edificio che recita: M.AGRIPPA.L.F.COS.TERTIUM.FECIT, "Marco Agrippa, figlio di Lucio, console per la terza volta, edificò". A quasi due millenni dalla sua costruzione, la cupola del Pantheon è ancora oggi una delle più grandi di tutto il mondo e, nello specifico, la più grande costruita in calcestruzzo non armato. Ha un diametro di 43,44 m, è decorata all'interno da cinque ordini di ventotto cassettoni, di misura decrescente procedendo verso l'alto. Successivamente l'edificio si salvò dalle distruzioni del primo Medioevo perché già nel 608 l'imperatore bizantino Foca ne aveva fatto dono a papa Bonifacio IV (608-615), che lo trasformò nel 609 in chiesa cristiana con il nome di Sancta Maria ad Martyres. È il solo edificio dell'antica Roma ad essere rimasto praticamente intatto e ininterrottamente in uso per scopi religiosi fin dal momento della sua fondazione. A partire dal Rinascimento all'interno del Pantheon furono realizzate sepolture, in particolare di artisti illustri. Ancor oggi vi si conservano, fra le altre, le tombe dei pittori Raffaello Sanzio ed Annibale Carracci, dell'architetto Baldassarre Peruzzi e del musicista Arcangelo Corelli. Tra le tombe del Pantheon vanno anche citate quelle reali. È questo, infatti, il luogo in cui sono stati sepolti Vittorio Emanuele II, il figlio Umberto I e la sua consorte, la regina Margherita. Come esempio meglio conservato dell'architettura monumentale romana, il Pantheon ha avuto enorme influenza sugli architetti di tutto il mondo (un esempio su tutti è Andrea Palladio). Numerose sale civiche, università e biblioteche, riecheggiano la sua struttura con portico e cupola.
