Domenica mattina a spasso per Roma con l'amico juzzino Jo e la mia amica Giovanna. Un angolo di Roma stupendo con un po' di storia: Il complesso del Portico d'Ottavia è l'unico conservato dei grandi portici che limitavano, sul lato settentrionale, la piazza del "Circo Flaminio", area che corrisponde all'antico ghetto. Fu ricostruito da Augusto, al posto del più antico Portico di Metello, tra il 27 ed il 23 a.C. e dedicato alla sorella Ottavia. Successivamente fu restaurato e parzialmente ricostruito nel 203 da Settimio Severo, dopo un incendio del 191, periodo al quale appartengono per la maggior parte i resti attualmente visibili. Il complesso, un quadriportico di 119 x 132 metri, incluse il più antico "Tempio di Giunone Regina", al quale vennero allora affiancati il "Tempio di Giove Statore", il primo a Roma integralmente di marmo, due biblioteche, greca e latina, e la Curia Octaviae, un grande ambiente per pubbliche riunioni. Oggi, del complesso rimane solo l'angolo sudorientale e il vestibolo d'accesso. Anticamente, il suo interno si configurava come una sorta di museo all'aperto poiché ospitava una grande quantità di opere d'arte, tra cui spiccava la turma Alexandri, opera bronzea che raffigurava Alessandro Magno e i suoi cavalieri, realizzata da Lisippo. In età tardoantica e medievale, gli spazi porticati del monumento vennero utilizzati per la vendita del pesce, caratterizzando questa zona come "Forum piscium" o "Pescheria Vecchia", il principale mercato cittadino per la vendita del pesce che rimase attivo fino alla fine dell'800. La pietra che si trova alla destra del grande arco del Portico è tutto ciò che ne è rimasto. L'iscrizione latina sull'arco parla della tradizione secondo la quale ai Conservatori o ai Magistrati del Campidoglio doveva essere dato ogni pesce, dalla testa fino alla prima pinna, la cui lunghezza era maggiore di questa pietra. Nell'ultimo quarto dell'VIII secolo, sulle strutture del portico e dei monumenti adiacenti si ricavarono gli ambienti della chiesa di S. Angelo in Pescheria, che inglobarono una delle colonne posteriori e parte del timpano, ancora visibile all'interno della chiesa. Fu dal Portico di Ottavia che Cola di Rienzo, politico della metà del XIV secolo, partì per conquistare il Campidoglio il giorno di Pentecoste del 1347. Il monumento è ora reso accessibile tramite una piccola cordonata in prosecuzione di via del portico d'Ottavia, ad una rampa di fronte alle colonne d'entrata, percorribile anche dalle persone disabili e ad una scala, che collega l'area del portico all'entrata della chiesa di Sant'Angelo in Pescheria, e ad un passetto che permette il collegamento con gli edifici di via di Foro Piscario ed il vicino teatro di Marcello.
