Il pigliamosche di seta codalunga è un uccello endemico delle aree montane di Costa Rica e nord del Panama, un tempo compreso nella famiglia Bombycillidae (la stessa dei beccofrusoni) ma più recentemente classificato nela famiglia Ptiliogonatidae. In realtà questa specie non ha alcuna affinità nè con i pigliamosche del vecchio mondo (Muscicapidae) né con quelli americani (Tyrannidae). Il suo nome deriva dal piumaggio finissimo e dalla sua tecnica di volo quando è in cerca degli insetti di cui prevalentemente si nutre. È un uccello lungo 18-25 cm, con una caratteristica cresta e bei colori dalle varie sfumature di grigio e di giallo. Dovrebbe trattarsi di una specie nuova per questo forum.
