I've never gone beyond f/16 either. I should try.
I don't mean artificial backgrounds and didn't know about rigid matte plastic. But I came up with an idea (for those who are denied to use airbrushing)... could it work to photograph grass (or alternatively leaves) blurring the whole scene and having the photo printed on opaque film?
