Plebejus argus (Linné, 1758) - Famiglia Lycaenidae - Sottofamiglia Polyommatinae - Apertura alare: Da 2,2 a 2,7 cm.- Distribuzione in Italia: Presente in tutte le regioni, isole comprese, ad eccezione della Sardegna. - Habitat: Pendii erbosi accidentati e umidi, dalla pianura sino a 2200 m. - Periodo di volo: Univoltina da luglio ad agosto, ma in alcune località di pianura presenta anche sfarfallamenti dalla fine di maggio a giugno. - Pianta alimentare dei bruchi: Numerose specie di leguminose tra cui quelle dei generi Hippocrepis, Lotus e Coronilla. - Dimorfismo sessuale: Sul diritto la femmina è marrone con archetti marginali arancioni. - Variazioni: Le varie razze locali si differenziano per la grandezza media degli esemplari; inoltre, sul diritto delle ali delle femmine, varia il numero di archetti arancioni premarginali che in alcuni casi sono appena accennati sulle ali posteriori, mentre in altri sono presenti anche su quelle anteriori.
