Un gruppo di fuori strada è fermo. Ci avviciniamo anche noi a guardare un ghepardo che non sa a dove correre, in mezzo ad un gruppo di Impala. Sembra non sapere come e cosa fare..."Un principiante" diciamo io e il driver, sorridendo. Stremato dal rimbalzare come una pallina da flipper si sdraia su un cumulo di terra, appena più alto della vegetazione, per avere visuale. I fuoristrada affollati di turisti si allontanano...Lo show è terminato. Noi restiamo fermi ad una ventina metri dal felino e attendiamo.Dopo circa 30 minuti il ghepardo si solleva ed inizia a scrutare l'orizzonte come se avesse visto qualcosa! Cerchiamo con il binocolo nella direzione dello sguardo fisso dell'animale ma non vediamo nulla. Sorridiamo nuovamente. Passano pochi secondi e il ghepardo parte a grandi falcate! Partiamo anche noi. Facciamo fatica a tenere la sua velocità! E' come un proiettile! Corre per quasi due minuti o più...Avremo fatto più di un chilometro, tutto il fuoristrada balla e non riesco a seguire con l'obiettivo la corsa dell'animale! Poi un polverone nell'erba, pochi secondi ed eccolo riapparire dalla nuvola di terra! Un piccolo di impala tra le fauci. Lo stringe al collo per ucciderlo...ed il gioco e fatto. Il driver ed io non abbiamo scambiato una parola per il resto del pomeriggio. Avevamo deriso la natura! Avevamo deriso un animale perfetto! Perfetto nel suo ambiente, capace di vedere oltre il nostro sguardo, capace di correre più veloce di un'auto e soprattutto capace di sopravvivere dove un uomo forse non riuscirebbe...
