I Gauchos (simili ai cow boy nord americani) sono caratterizzati dalla loro abilità nel cavalcare i cavalli creoli e anche dall'uso delle bolas, palline di pietra che arrotolate o legate a dei lacci di cuoio, vengono fatte roteare sopra la testa e, una volta lanciate, si arrotolano attorno alle gambe della preda. L'uso di questi oggetti si tramanda di padre in figlio tra i gauchos e ha origini risalenti a migliaia di anni fa.
