Edoardo de Candia, il pellerossa leccese, per via del suo vagabondare, girava mezzo nudo; pittore di razza , il suo stile sui quadri era immediato. Quattro linee facevano già un'opera ; diluiva i colori con l'acqua di mare, preferendo la spiaggia di San Cataldo che raggiungeva a piedi. Un giorno fece un falò di alcuni suoi quadri e a chi gli chiedeva la ragione, rispose che voleva fare una mostra ... in cielo. Amato e odiato.
