Il gibbone pileato o gibbone dal berretto è un animale endemico delle foreste della Cambogia e Thailandia meridionale , oggigiorno il suo areale di distribuzione si è fortemente ristretto a causa del rapido disboscamento della foresta pluviale per far spazio a piantagioni di palma da olio. E' in atto un progetto di ripopolamento di questa specie nella foresta di Angkor , incrociamo le dita per la sorte di questa bellissima scimmia antropomorfa .
