La Gentiana cruciata L., comunemente chiamata Genziana minore, appartiene alla famiglia delle Gentianaceae. Fiorisce da Giugno ad Agosto e cresce nei prati, nei pascoli, nelle pendici cespugliate ben soleggiate e nelle radure, di preferenza su suoli calcarei asciutti, dai 200 fino ai 2000 m. Si trova in tutte le regioni italiane ad eccezione delle isole maggiori e delle regioni Puglia, Basilicata e Calabria. Il termine generico dal greco "gentiané", voce che gli antichi etimologisti riportano a "Gènzio", re dell'Illiria, che per primo avrebbe scoperto la genziana e l'avrebbe usata come medicamento. Il temine specifico per la posizione a croce delle foglie lungo il fusto. Scatto effettuato in Val di Fassa nel mese di Luglio 2019.
