Il Palais Bourbon (Palazzo Borbone) si trova nel VII arrondissement di Parigi lungo il Quai d'Orsay. E' un edificio storico del Settecento che, dal 1830, è sede della Camera Bassa del Parlamento francese, cioè, dell'Assemblée Nationale (Assemblea Nazionale). Il Palazzo fu costruito per ordine della duchessa Louise Françoise de Bourbon, figlia di Luigi XIV e di Madame de Montespan. La sua realizzazione durò pochi anni: 1722-1728. Lorenzo Giardini prima, Pierre Cailleteau poi e, infine, Jean Aubert e Jacques Gabriel furono gli architetti che si occuparono della sua realizzazione. Il Palais Bourbon ha subito varie modifiche durante gli anni, ad esempio, le due ali del palazzo che racchiudono il cortile d'onore che dà sulla piazza furono aggiunte nel 1764 per volere di Luigi Giuseppe di Borbone-Condé, nipote di Luisa Francesca. Ancora, la facciata nord fu realizzata tra il 1803 e il 1807: è in stile neoclassico e fu commissionata da Fontanes, l'allora presidente del Corpo Legislativo. Infine, il padiglione all'esterno fu voluto dal Marchese di Lassay. L'interno del palazzo è stato decorato in buona parte dal grande pittore Eugéne Delacroix nella prima metà dell'Ottocento, durante i lavori di ristrutturazione voluti dalla Camera dei Deputati che acquisì l'edificio nel 1827. Particolarmente degne di nota sono la Biblioteca, la Sala di Legno, la Sala delle Sedute, la Sala delle Conferenze, il Salone del Re e la Sala dei Passi Perduti. La Biblioteca conserva opere uniche, come gli atti originali del processo a Giovanna d'Arco, il Codice Borbonicus e alcuni manoscritti del filosofo illuminista Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Ma nella Biblioteca possiamo ammirare anche le decorazioni che realizzò Delacroix fra il 1838 e il 1847, come la “Storia della Civiltà”, oppure i busti commemorativi di Voltaire e Diderot, opera di Jean-Jean-Antoine Houdon; nella Sala di legno, invece, Luigi Filippo giurò fedeltà alla Costituzione (9 agosto 1830). Il Palais Bourbon può essere visitato solo su prenotazione, con una modalità a dir poco insolita. Una volta collegati al sito ufficiale, occorre selezionare un deputato a cui inviare la richiesta. Quando il deputato avrà 50 domande, organizzerà una visita gratuita di un'ora e mezza e voi sarete contattati. Bisogna quindi muoversi con largo anticipo, ma ne varrà sicuramente la pena!
