Tutte le volte che sono a Parigi non posso non tornare almeno un pomeriggio a Montmatre. E' una tappa obbligatoria, “un pellegrinaggio del cuore”, dice un mio vecchio amico e collega. In effetti è vero, ha ragione. Il fatto è che non sembra, perché nessuno, conoscendomi lo direbbe, ma sono un'inguaribile romantica, una che pensa al tempo passato con nostalgia, che si emoziona per un ricordo, per un sorriso. Passeggiando per place Du Tetre, ho incontrato questo giovane artista: era lì, seduto davanti al suo cavalletto, guardava gli altri lavorare, sperando che arrivasse anche per lui un cliente. Mi sono avvicinata, gli ho chiesto il permesso per una foto e, poi abbiamo cominciato a chiacchierare. Venticinque anni e già un vissuto pieno di sacrifici, di aspettative, di illusioni e delusioni, di amori vissuti e perduti. Mi ha detto che riusciva a tirare avanti grazie alla generosità di alberghi e ristoranti che spesso, in cambio di una tela, gli offrono colazione, pranzo e cena, nei periodi di grande crisi. Con i soldi che riesce a guadagnare in piazza, facendo ritratti, ci paga l'affitto di una casa lì vicino, che divide con altri due artisti squattrinati come lui. Voleva farmi il ritratto a tutti i costi, ho rifiutato. Ma non sono andata via senza un abbraccio e dopo avergli lasciato qualcosa che gli ha fatto brillare gli occhi di gioia. La storia di Luis mi ha riportato alla mente la Montmatre di tanti anni fa, quella cantata del grande Charles Aznavour che parlava di sogni di due ragazzi pieni di speranze e senza un soldo. Faceva così: "E nei caffè vicini eravamo qualcuno che aspettava la gloria dei poveri si sa ma a dir la verità ci credevamo tanto tanto che una tela poi si trasformava in un pasto caldo e tutto senza un soldo intorno ad un camino l'inverno non c'è più." Luis, ti auguro con tutto il cuore di sfondare, di avere successo, e di tornare come il pittore di Aznavour a rivedere la sua vecchia soffitta di Montmatre, senza più i lillà.
