Jan Hus 1371 – 1415 è stato un teologo e un riformatore religioso boemo, nonché rettore all'Università Carolina di Praga. Promosse un movimento religioso basato sulle idee di John Wycliffe e i suoi seguaci divennero noti come Hussiti. Scomunicato nel 1411 dalla Chiesa cattolica e condannato dal Concilio di Costanza, fu bruciato sul rogo. Jan Hus viene considerato il primo anticipatore della Riforma protestante (iniziata circa un secolo dopo la sua morte), essendo vissuto prima di Lutero, Calvino e Zwingli. Dopo la sua morte, gli Hussiti si schierarono in massa contro la corruzione ed i crimini della Chiesa cattolica, respingendo ben cinque crociate bandite contro di loro. Un secolo più tardi, il 90% degli abitanti delle Terre ceche continuò a rimanere anti-cattolico aderendo alla Riforma protestante o entrando a far parte dell'Unione dei Fratelli Boemi, questi ultimi diretti successori del movimento hussita (wikipedia)
