Ngorongoro essendo un cratere vulcanico conserva numerose tracce di colate laviche vecchie di migliaia di anni. Fra queste rocce vive una nutrita colonia di questo magnifico esemplare, il Nibbio bruno africano. Si lasciano avvicinare, era a circa 5/6 metri.
