L'affresco più grande della cattedrale “La vergine Gloriosa”, che orna la volta centrale fu realizzato da Carl Bryullov. L'area dell'affresco è 816 metri quadrati. Un ponteggio speciale fu fatto per il pittore per dipingere l'affresco, che salì e scese alcune volte al giorno per controllare se le figure apparissero naturali anche dal basso. Dipingeva sdraiato sulla schiena e, poiché la cattedrale non era riscaldata, Bryullov alla fine si prese i reumatismi e ne morì qualche anno dopo in Italia; gli affreschi furono finiti dai suoi allievi. L'affresco rappresenta la Vergine circondata dai santi, che guardano verso il centro della cupola, dove si trova la scultura della colomba della pace, alta 1,05 e lunga 1,65 metri, un simbolo di Spirito Santo, appesa ad un'altezza di 80 metri. Nelle nicchie dei pilastri ci sono pitture ad olio con scene dalla vita di Cristo.
