Questa ruota panoramica piena di luci colorate troneggiava nel Porto di Monopoli, durante il periodo delle festività natalizie. Ed con vero orgoglio monopolitano che, ho visto una grande foto del porto di Monopoli a rappresentare la regione Puglia nella lista interattiva dei 52 itinerari di viaggio suggeriti dal New York Times. La Puglia, al diciottesimo posto, è stata scelta dal periodico statunitense tra le destinazioni più suggestive del mondo insieme alla Liguria con il suo Golfo Paradiso che occupa il venticinquesimo posto. L'articolo dal titolo “Barocco e spiagge nel tacco d'Italia” a firma della giornalista americana Ingrid K. Williams elenca una serie di bellezze della Puglia, regione che negli ultimi anni ha fatto registrare elevate presenze turistiche soprattutto a livello internazionale. A rappresentarla è stata scelta Monopoli, meta turistica di grande richiamo che in cinque anni, dal 2012 al 2017, ha raddoppiato le presenze turistiche totali e quadruplicato quelle estere.
