Il W Barcelona, conosciuto anche come Hotel Vela è un edificio progettato da Ricardo Bofill, che si trova nel quartiere di La Barceloneta a Barcellona vicino al Porto di Barcellona. L'hotel è gestito da Starwood Hotels and Resorts, catena commercializzata con il marchio W Hotels. Aprì il 1 settembre 2009. La missione urbana del progetto era quello di fornire un prolungamento a sud della città alla costa. All'epoca del progetto, l'edificio era costituito da una torre a forma di vela alta 160 metri. Il comune, tuttavia, costrinse l'architetto ad abbassare l'altezza a 99 metri in modo tale da non alterare lo skyline di Barcellona. I nudisti e surfisti che spesso si possono vedere sulle spiagge di Barceloneta e San Sebastian Beach sostengono che l'hotel modifica la corrente marina a causa del prolungamento del molo. Inoltre non rispetta la legge perché è a 20 metri dal mare. I detrattori dell'hotel vogliono che l'edificio venga demolito.
