Nella prima metà del Cinquecento, le “carrozzelle” erano molte e creavano problemi di traffico. I romani non le amavano, in quanto erano ingombranti, pericolose e facevano un grande rumore sul selciato. La protesta fu tale che Sisto V impose dei limiti alla loro circolazione. Il vetturino, quasi sempre, proprietario della carrozza e del cavallo, accompagnava gli sposi in chiesa, sfidava le avverse situazioni atmosferiche per accompagnare il medico nei posti più isolati della campagna. Oggi, le circa tremila carrozzelle della Roma di una volta, non ci sono più, le poche rimaste sono eleganti carrozze dipinte di rosso, blu e giallo; il lavoro del vetturino è quello di accompagnare i turisti spiegando, durante il percorso, le bellezze artistiche della Città Eterna, con la sua magnifica fontana di Trevi, il Colosseo, la scalinata di Trinità dei Monti e tanto altro ancora. Il cavallo da carrozza deve avere una grande resistenza a causa del duro lavoro che deve svolgere: soste sotto il sole infuocato dell'estate, sotto la pioggia ed il vento, riposi irregolari. Per ricordare le carrozzelle romane, Robertino e Claudio Villa, portarono al successo la canzone “Carrozzella Romana”, eccone una strofa: “…quanti ricordi cari di gioventù, fai ritornare in mente passando tu; tra il sorriso dei colli, del Pincio e di Villa Borghese, delle antiche fontane, di chiese di borghi e di fior; carrozzella romana che porti chi è senza pretese, sei la reggia più bella dei sogni fugaci d'amor…” Commenti e critiche sempre molto graditi, grazie.
