L'Aurora , in cirillico ABPOPA, è un incrociatore russo costruito nei cantieri navali di San Pietroburgo e varato l'11 maggio 1900. Fu così battezzato in onore della fregata Aurora, che difese la città di Petropavlovsk-Kamčatski durante la guerra di Crimea (1853-1856). Nel 1917 un colpo di cannone sparato dall'incrociatore segnò l'inizio dell'attacco al palazzo d'Inverno, con cui viene associato lo scoppio della Rivoluzione d'Ottobre. Ma quello che forse non tutti sanno è che sei anni prima di quel colpo di cannone l'Aurora visse dei giorni di gloria in Italia, a Messina, dove era stata designata a ricevere, in rappresentanza della Flotta Russa del Mar Baltico, le onorificenze e soprattutto la gratitudine diretta dei cittadini di Messina, completamente distrutta nel terremoto. Dopo il sisma del 28 dicembre del 1908. infatti i primi soccorsi ad essere prestati alla città e ai suoi abitanti furono quelli di sei navi della flotta imperiale. Dopo lo svolgimento di una serie di opere di rinnovamento, iniziate nel 2014, dal luglio del 2016, l'incrociatore torna al suo posto, sul lungoneva Petrovskiy, ed è nuovamente visitabile.
