Avevi meno di vent'anni, quando vidi per la prima volta dal vivo, calpestando le sue pietre, questa piazza e la sua famosa Galleria, opera dell'architetto Mengoni. Fu una grande emozione, e fu in quel momento che cominciai gradualmente a rendermi conto che dovevo adottare Milano come mia seconda terra. Gli anni di università, poi i primi timidi passi in quella che fu per più di quarant'anni la mia professione: un mestiere che oggi, se potessi, rifarei anche gratis. Durante i fine settimana, negli intervalli fra una lezione e un'altra, dalla Cattolica in Sant'Ambrogio, venivo qui con i miei compagni di corso, si passeggiava, si guardavano le vetrine, e si sbirciava in Galleria, davanti alla libreria Rizzoli, l'uscita del grande Enzo Biagi, dal suo ufficio, che aveva sulla libreria. Era sempre circondato da un codazzo di aspiranti giornalisti, e un giorno fortunato, ebbi l'avventura di parlargli. Fu paterno e prodigo di consigli e da quella volta, ogni tanto, avevo libero accesso al suo studio. E' stato un grande maestro. Un altro ricordo bello, è quello del mio primo incontro con il principe dei giornalisti: Indro Montanelli. Era altissimo, lo guardavo dal basso in sù e mi sembrava un gigante per statura e per cultura. Oggi torno spesso in questo luogo della "memoria", rivivo le stesse emozioni, e stranamente, mi sembra di ritornare a quegli anni di piombo con il terrorismo che imperversava, ma per me belli lo stesso, perché ricchi di sogni e di speranze per un futuro migliore.
