Adagiato su un solitario pendio montano dell'alta Valle Grana, poco dopo le borgate Chiotti e Chiappi, si erge imponente il bianco santuario di San Magno. Le sue origini sono remote e misteriose. La primaria costruzione è tuttora esistente ed ha la funzione di abside della prima chiesa di cui esistono documenti e che oggi è conosciuta come la Cappella Vecchia, venne edificata nel 1514 con le “pie elemosine” dei fedeli. Gli affreschi di pregevole fattura della piccola abside vengono attribuiti al noto pittore detto Pietro da Saluzzo che operò nelle valli cuneesi nel XV secolo. La Cappella Vecchia venne affrescata da Giovanni Botoneri di Cherasco che realizzò la Passione di Cristo e altri soggetti con scarso senso delle proporzioni ma con grande espressività. Nel corso di lavori di scavo sotto il pavimento della Cappella Vecchia, eseguiti a fine Ottocento, venne scoperta un'ara in pietra dedicata al dio Marte che oggi si trova murata sotto il porticato posteriore del santuario, questo è il segno evidente che il luogo era già dedicato al culto fin dal tempo dei Romani. L'attuale grande costruzione ha origini più recenti. L'imponente chiesa dove si tengono oggi le principali funzioni venne costruita tra il 1704 e il 1716 mentre il porticato venne realizzato tra il 1862 e il 1866. San Magno viene considerato dalla tradizione popolare locale un martire appartenuto alla leggendaria Legione tebea e per questo motivo la sua statua più vecchia che si trova nel santuario lo raffigura in abiti da soldato romano. Studi recenti hanno però portato alla luce un san Magno con l'abito da monaco vissuto nel secolo VIII che si formò nel monastero di San Gallo in Svizzera e che compì una grande opera di evangelizzazione in Algovia, morì poi a Fuessen nel 772, per questo motivo la statua più recente del santuario lo vuole con l'abito da frate. Esiste anche una terza ipotesi su san Magno che lo vorrebbe compagno di san Dalmazzo che secondo la tradizione fu martirizzato nella vicina Valle Stura. Il 19 agosto di ogni anno salgono al santuario turisti e pellegrini per l'occasione della festa patronale che vede la presenza dell'antica Abbadia composta da soli uomini che armati di alabarda formano una sorta di guardia d'onore a San Magno.
