The flower and the foreshortening are very beautiful, the definition freehand is very good but I think (personal opinion) would have been even better with a F11 and a consequent shutter time more and with lesser Iso... (You could perhaps also evaluate an alternative shot to compare to this, but in hindsight you can say everything ;-))
Excellent light and beautiful colors, very good Tim :-).
A dear greeting, Claudio :-P

Thank you everybody.

This was a real 'live' wild flower in a garden, blowing gently in the wind. I perhaps expected ten 'likes', maximum twenty, so I am really surprised to its popularity.

To Nightflier's suggestion - yes, in hindsight I should have changed the settings slightly, but only to increase the iso to 400, allowing a faster shutter speed, to help combat any movement in the subject and that I was shooting at an awkward, low angle, as I am very tall.

F16, if anything was not sufficient depth of field to cover all the yellow area. The middle, which recesses back into the flower, was quite soft and so I had to add localised extra sharpness in editing.

Testing this lens last night and further today in a dark church, I was able to regularly handhold at 1/40 second, at times 1/15, despite no stabilisation.

In my opinion, the popular move away from good, solid DSLR's which we hold firmly against our face (creating a kind stability through arms, body, legs and feet, now everybody takes photos as fast as possible, holding devices at arms length. We become ever reliant on increasingly efficient stabilisation systems - believe me, if I have such a system then I will fully use it - but it is good to practice "old fashioned" techniques and refreshing our skills at simple camera holding, posture and breathing.

I took quite joy at shooting with this fixed lens from before sunrise this morning and after dark last night and throughout the day, letting subjects come to me and not this usual attempt to frame everything by incessent zooming. Very few, if any, photos will be good enough to publish, but then this is digital and we can just shoot what we want.
