Here's a shot of an Azure Damselfly at Sunset, to create this image I had to shot wide open (F3.5 on my macro lens), the reason being that if you stop down, the out of focus Sun will get smaller, but much more importantly the lenses aperture blades will become apparent in the OOF Sun (or Moon)........so shooting wide open, into a bright light source does create some problems (including DOF and image quality), but as for the shutter speed "problem" - it just means waiting for the Sun to be a minute or less from touching the horizon.......i've used filters to slow the shutter speed and shoot the Sun when it is slightly higher in the sky, this of course works.....but the light from the Sun is harsh/white light, so I prefer to wait for that magic minute, with it's "softer" (if you can call it that at 1/2500th lol) light and rich Sunset colours :)
