The Common Kingfisher - It is about 16 centimetres (6.3 in) long with a wingspan of 25 cm (9.8 in),[7] and weighs 34–46 grams (1.2–1.6 oz).[8]
The Pied Kingfisher - Length: 24-26 cm; Wingspan: 45-47 cm; Weight: 70-95 g
So certainly bigger but the Pied is a medium sized kingfisher with Australia's Laughing Kookaburra being considerable larger at 39–42 cm and male weighs 310–345 g (10.9–12.2 oz) and the female 355–480 g (12.5–16.9 oz). We also saw and photographed the African Giant Kingfisher. Smaller than the Kookaburra but also considered to be a large Kingfisher as the name suggests.
