Il magnifico paesaggio della Val d'Orcia, è dal 2004, Patrimonio dell'Unesco. La Val d'Orcia, connubio di arte e paesaggio, spazio geografico e caratteristiche naturali ma anche il risultato e la testimonianza della gente che vi ha abitato. Secondo l'Unesco questa valle è un eccezionale esempio di come il paesaggio naturale sia stato ridisegnato nel Rinascimento e rispecchia gli ideali del "buon governo" (XIV e XV sec.) tipici della città-stato italiana, i cui splendidi luoghi sono stati celebrati dai pittori della Scuola Senese, fiorita tra il XIII ed il XV secolo. Dolci colline ricoperte da una fitta vegetazione di vigneti, oliveti, cipressi, faggeti e castagneti, interrotta da antichi abitati di origine medievale, case rurali e rocche con torri impervie che si disperdono nell'isolata e tranquilla natura dei luoghi: è questo lo scenario che si presenta agli occhi del visitatore della Val d'Orcia, scenario suggestivo, proprio come ritratto dai maestri della Scuola Senese. La Val d'Orcia ha legato i suoi destini alla via Cassia, la grande strada romana che metteva in comunicazione Roma col nord Italia e che attraversa per intero la valle. Una strada che, per gran parte del suo percorso, ricalca la storica via Francigena, dove il senso del viaggio ha lo spirito del pellegrinaggio. Castiglione d'Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Radicofani e San Quirico d'Orcia sono i cinque splendidi comuni che hanno scelto di dare vita al Parco della Val D'Orcia per tutelarne l'ambiente e il territorio e per promuoverne il marchio. Contignano, Monticchiello, Bagno Vignoni, Rocca d'Orcia, Campiglia d'Orcia, Bagni San Filippo, Vivo d'Orcia, sono altre magnifiche località che in questa zona costituiscono anche un tuffo in un passato affascinante e ricco di suggestioni. La ricchezza e la varietà del paesaggio non sono gli unici elementi che caratterizzano questo territorio incontaminato, anche la produzione enogastronomica è infatti uno dei punti di forza della Val d'Orcia: il cacio pecorino di Pienza, il miele della Val d'Orcia, l'olio extra-vergine di oliva di Castiglione d'Orcia, i salumi di Cinta Senese. E ancora funghi e tartufi, e uno dei vini più famosi al mondo: il Brunello di Montalcino. Il mio scatto naturalmente non rende la bellezza dei luoghi, ma ero lì, e ci ho provato.
