Thanks Janx. Well in fact it is not so obvious: you can slightly glimpse the central groove of the valley. But you know, for US extremists of instrumental limits, even the hint of a particular scarcely visible can be gratifying... ;-)

Really congratulations Mark! In fact I had heard in a lecture (the rapporteur was the famous Marco Guidi) that the rhyme in the Alpine Valley would have a dimension lower than the resolving power of amateur telescopes, yet if you can push the instrument to the maximum you can make it emerge As an effect of the contrast of the image (somewhat like certain divisions of the rings of Saturn). You did it without a doubt and then really congratulations!

Did you see these pictures of Guidi anyway? I have to take my breath away... new.marcoguidihires.com/moon/moon-2017

Thank you Daniele. well, the pictures you're talking about are definitely out of reach of most of us. I do not think that I will ever have the opportunity to work with a telescope from half a metre of mirror, and anyway Marco Guidi uses it in a masterly way. They really seem taken by a sliding shuttle...

You're absolutely right Mark that the photo of Guidi seems taken from a sliding shuttle... In fact it is not very dissimilar from the photos of the Lunar Reconnaissance orbiter, which are part of this beautiful interactive map of which I just discovered the existence quickmap.lroc.asu.edu
