Le cave di pietra molera si trovano tra i comuni di Malnate e Cagno, sono sul confine di due provincie Varese e Como. Sono inserite in un contesto naturalistico chiamato "Sistema naturalistico della cave di Molera nella valle del Lanza". Hanno un età di 25 milioni di anni e si sono formate su fondali marini. Sul percorso si trovano le sei grotte una di seguito all'altra. Sono cave molto ampie, grosse quasi come delle cattedrali e all'interno la roccia può avere varie tonalità di verdi. Ci sono i segni degli scavi di quando queste erano cave per l'estrazione di pietra da utilizzare prima per la costruzione di edifici nel contado del Seprio, dopo per costruire i monumenti e i dettagli a Castiglione Olona, infine sono state utilizzate per l'estrazione della pietra per le mole.
