La tonnara di Vendicari, detta anche Bafutu, ossia anticamente del Capo Bojuto, fu una tonnara di ritorno, cioè una tonnara che pescava i tonni e gli sgombri che dopo la stagione degli amori ritornavano in mare aperto. Oggi, quelli che erano i ruderi diroccati dello stabilimento con i suoi cento metri circa di lunghezza, i pilastri che ne sorreggevano il tetto, la ciminiera altissima e le case dei pescatori, sono stati completamente restaurati e riconsegnati alla comunità. La tonnara è quindi diventata uno dei simboli di Vendicari, una struttura di grande fascino che domina la zona centrale della Riserva.
