Conosco Alberto almeno da quarant'anni, faceva il portiere nello stabile accanto a casa mia. Mi ricordo le grandi nevicate milanesi, quando la mia auto faceva i capricci, arriva subito lui e, come per magia il motore cominciava a brontolare e via che si parte. Quando tornavo dai miei viaggi, gli portavo sempre le calamite che, Carla, sua moglie piazzava sulla porta del frigorifero. Ora è andato in pensione e anzicché godersi la vita, si è fatto venire la depressione. L'ho visto l'altro giorno, armeggiava intorno al cancello della casa di sua sorella. Mi è dispiaciuto, è diventato un uomo spento, mi ha detto che da quando non lavora non sa che fare, le giornate sono lunghe e la notte non dorme. Tornando a casa, ci ho pensato e mi son fatta venire un'idea: stamattina presto sono andata in parrocchia, ho esposto il caso dell'Alberto a don Emilio, e abbiamo deciso di metterlo alla mensa. Il parroco insisteva per quella dei poveri, ma sono riuscita a convincerlo a metterlo a quella dei bambini. L'Alberto è già depresso, ha bisogno di sorridere, non di deprimersi ancora di più. Ringraziando don Emilio, prima di andare, gli ho anche strappato la promessa di dare Alberto come autista a don Alberto, tre volte a settimana, quando va in Arcivescovado o in missione in altre parrocchie.
