La chiesa della Santissima Trinità dei Monti è una chiesa cattolica di Roma, nel rione Campo Marzio, alle spalle della celebre scalinata di piazza di Spagna. La chiesa è una delle 5 chiese cattoliche francesi di Roma, insieme con San Luigi dei Francesi, San Nicola dei Lorenesi, Sant'Ivo dei Bretoni e Santi Claudio e Andrea dei Borgognoni. La prima parte della chiesa fu costruita tra il 1502 e il 1519 in stile gotico; la parte più antica, coperta da volte a crociera ogivali, è delimitata da una cancellata bronzea. Alla navata gotica, verso la metà del XVI secolo fu aggiunto un nuovo corpo di fabbrica, coperto da volta a botte, chiuso da una facciata ornata da due campanili simmetrici, opera di Giacomo della Porta e Carlo Maderno. La chiesa fu consacrata nel 1585 da papa Sisto V. L'area su cui è edificata la chiesa fu acquistata da San Francesco di Paola per realizzarci il convento dell'Ordine dei Padri Minimi. Il terreno fu venduto dai nobili veneziani Barbaro, come risulta dall'atto di acquisto ancora reperibile mentre non risulta documentabile il mito di un contributo reale francese alla sua costruzione. Infatti le pretese francesi di imporre un'influenza alla zona della Trinità dei Monti datano fin dal XVI secolo; nel XIX secolo anche l'Accademia di Francia fu trasferita poco lontano, nell'adiacente Villa Medici. Nonostante credenze popolari la celeberrima scalinata, inaugurata da papa Benedetto XIII nel 1725, fu realizzata da Francesco De Sanctis (terminata nel 1726) essenzialmente con finanziamenti privati (il legato del diplomatico Etienne Gueffier) e non della famiglia regnante in Francia, per segnare così con adeguata pompa e fasto barocco il termine della città e l'inizio degli orti, precedentemente occupato dal viridiario dell'Olmata. La chiesa presenta su un campanile un orologio e sull'altro una meridiana. Davanti a Trinità dei Monti, verso la fine del XVIII secolo, papa Pio VI fece innalzare dall'architetto Antinori l'Obelisco Sallustiano, il penultimo dei grandi obelischi innalzati nella Roma papale, realizzato in epoca romana imperiale ad imitazione degli obelischi egiziani.
