Fra le molte creature che vivono nelle acque del fiume si contano pesci come la perca nilotica (Lates niloticus), che arriva a pesare anche 80 chilogrammi , oltre a pesci gatto, anguille, dipnoi (capaci di respirare l'ossigeno atmosferico) e pesci tigre, mentre le sue sponde sono la dimora dei coccodrilli del Nilo. E infine, c'è la parte turistica del grande fiume: le sue barchette, le sue feluche che portano i turisti in giro da Assuan fino ai poveri villaggi nubiani, dove si tocca veramente con mano la "povertà" e l'arte di arrangiarsi per sopravvivere.
