Giorgio Castriota, detto Scanderbeg (Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu in albanese, ?????? ??? ?skender Beg in turco-ottomano; Dibra, 6 maggio 1405 ? Alessio, 17 gennaio 1468), è stato un nobile, condottiero e patriota albanese. Tra le figure più rappresentative del XV secolo, fu principe albanese e re d'Epiro, abile condottiero e diplomatico, che unì i principati d'Albania animando la resistenza degli albanesi e bloccando per decenni l'avanzata dei turchi-ottomani verso l'Europa[1]. Eroe nazionale dell'Albania e degli albanesi, difese il suo paese e i suoi valori morali e religiosi cristiani dall'invasione musulmana, per tale motivo ottenne da Papa Callisto III gli appellativi di Atleta di Cristo e Difensore della Fede, le sue gesta ispirarono nei secoli le rapsodie, la letteratura, le arti e mantennero vivo negli albanesi lo spirito di libertà.

Beautiful photo to the Albanian national Hero. The country of the Eagles has remained in my heart since I was there for work (indeed for volunteering since I did not earn a euro) in 2002.
