Colonia, 31 dicembre, hall dell'hotel, un uomo solo, fra la confusione generale di gente che va e che viene. Mancano pochi minuti alle 20,30, fuori c'è un andirivieni di taxi, chiamati da noi per andare nei luoghi canonici del tradizionale veglione. Mi fermo al bar, a bere un caffè, squilla il suo cellulare, risponde e in inglese dice: “No, Williams, non ho sentito nessuno. Ho atteso fino all'ultimo che Margherita si facesse viva, nulla. Bevo un te e poi farò quattro passi in centro.” Mi viene l'angoscia, il nostro taxi non è ancora arrivato, chiamo Guido, un nostro amico, e gli chiedo se è un problema invitarlo ad unirsi a noi. Non faccio in tempo a finire di parlare, che lui parte in direzione dello sconosciuto. Non so cosa si siano detti, per discrezione me ne sono stata in disparte. Chiede qualche minuto per andare in camera a cambiarsi, arriva il taxi, lo cedo a una coppia, e ne chiamo un altro.
