Condivido il tuo approccio sulla focale e penso anch'io che il rischio di sbagliare l'inquadratura o perdere la foto valga la maggior nitidezza, soprattutto nell'avifauna, dove il poter contare le piume è davvero appagante.

Gabbia65 Un approccio un po' diverso dal mio, in questo caso. Io preferisco, in caso di luce radente come in questo scatto, andare leggermente in sovra esposizione e poi eventualmente abbassare le luci in post e alzare leggermente le ombre. Spesso il digitale conserva dettagli impensabili. Una sotto esposizione temo mi produca rumore se debbo alzare le ombre.
Io però scatto con una D3, che sebbene gloriosa, non è l'ultimo ritrovato della tecnica e tende a chiudere un po' le ombre già di suo.
Comunque non è fastidiosa affatto, anzi.
In ultimo: W la ricerca di fare tutto in camera. La PP, che apre ad interessantissimi orizzonti, toglie un po' di sana sfida con la macchina fotografica. Credo che anche tu sia un pellicolante. Queste sono fisse tipiche di chi viene dall'analogico, ma fisse sane , checché se ne dica.

Che sia prevalentemente pp non importa. Io sono della categoria di quelli che preferiscono rimanere fedeli all'evento originale. Non sarei un bravo paesaggista (vedo dipinti al posto di foto). Inoltre, conoscendo i miei limiti, cerco di fare il massimo in diretta, con lo scatto.
Sul fatto della sovraesposizione ho una brutta esperienza con i bianchi. Quando sono bruciati (per troppa luce) non riesco a recuperare i dettagli. Se sottoespongo mi sento piu' tranquillo. Magari effettivamente sulle ombre mi porto dietro un po' di rumore ma non riesco a rinunciare a tutte le sfumature del bianco. Sui soggetti scuri faccio l'esatto contrario. Sovraespongo un poco, poi in pp magari riabbasso le luci.

. Ma è stata una scelta mia personale per non perdere i dettagli delle alteluci relativi al piumaggio dei due soggetti. Ho effettuato lo scatto in sottoesposizione (come sempre faccio per i soggetti che sono molto chiari e che riflettono parecchio). Con una esposizione fedele a quella rilevata dall'esposimetro avrei perso dettagli sui bianchi. La luce (rivista in pp) che vedi nella foto finale è poi quella che percepivo io di persona prima del tramonto, quindi è piuttosto realistica anche se scura e magari un po' fastidiosa. Io poi non sono un mago della post produzione e preferisco fare tutto o quasi in sede di scatto.
