Il Sasso Barisano, il cui nome potrebbe derivare dalla sua esposizione verso la città di Bari, oppure dalla presenza della famiglia gentilizia Varisius, da cui Varisianus e quindi Barisano, è situata sul lato nord ovest della Civita, a strapiombo sul burrone e sul torrente Gravina. Nonostante sia più piccolo rispetto al quartiere del Sasso Caveoso, il Barisano si è sviluppato maggiormente a livello turistico-commerciale registrando un numero più alto di edifici restaurati.
