La torre di Belém è un'opera magistrale in stile manuelino e simbolo di Lisbona. Fu fatta edificare dal re Manuel sul fiume Tago, tra gli anni 1515 e 1521. La struttura dell'edificio è romanico-gotica, però la sua ornamentazione arabizzante le conferisce un aspetto esotico ed attraente. La sua funzione era quella di controllare la navigazione lungo l'estuario del fiume Tago e la sua entrata ed uscita dalla città.
