C'è dimorfismo sessuale e i maschi sono di colore azzurro-grigio mentre le femmine ocra-marrone. Lo pterostigma è relativamente (rispetto agli altri Orthetrum) piccolo ed è di color marrone. I maschi hanno volto blu chiaro e torace completamente blu. Le femmine hanno l'8° segmento allargato ventralmente. Vola da maggio a settembre.
