Le acacie orobiche sono acacie fossilizzate per disidratazione. In particolare a Deadvlei, le acacie furono ricoperte almeno 500 anni fà dal movimento delle dune e così fossilizzate. Il continuo movimento delle sabbie ha poi riportato alla luce la spianata arida di Deadvlei ed i suoi fossili.
