L'Eriophorum angustifolium Honch, comunemente chiamato Pennacchio a foglie strette o Erioforo a foglie strette, appartiene alla famiglia delle Cyperaceae. E' pianta perenne, che vive in paludi e torbiere, prati umidi, sponde di ruscelli, bordi di stagni, marcatamente acidofilo; molto diffuso, da 800 a 2500 m. in tutto il nord Italia. Il nome del genere deriva dal greco "érion" = "lana" e "phoros" = "porto", cioè "portatore di lana", per l'aspetto fioccoso delle candide infiorescenze; l'aggettivo specifico, dal latino, significa "a foglie strette". E' pianta officinale con proprietà astringenti e antidiarroiche. Curiosità: in tempi passati, soprattutto in Paesi del nord Europa, si è tentato di usare in tessitura le fibre dei pennacchi al posto del cotone (sotto il nome di "cotone artico"), ma le fibre sono risultate troppo fragili e inadatte a sopportare la torsione. Recenti ricerche hanno evidenziato che piante igrofile di questo e di altri generi (Typha, Phragmites, Juncus) tollerano alte concentrazioni di metalli (soprattutto zinco); questa caratteristica può favorire la bonifica ed il recupero ambientale di siti minerari, particolarmente in zone a clima freddo e umido. Scatto effettuato nel mese di Luglio 2017 nei pressi del Passo San Pellegrino (Dolomiti).
