Thank you so much to you all for your great comments and observations! One or two have asked about my choice of composition. I am a fan of negative space and deliberately chose the extra black area to the right, simply because it was pleasing to my eye. If I need more of a reason, it allows space for the fly to fly into!
@Pigi: I appreciate the attention you have given my image - you have given me cause for thought. Initially, I gave the fly much more prominence in the image but gradually extended the crop to a composition I found appealing. To answer your question as to which is most important - the fly or the flower - I think in this final image, I would have to say neither - it is the composition as a whole that is important - all three elements (fly, flower, black space) and the harmony between them. I suspect that is not an answer that satisfies you......
As for the square crop - yes, square works but I used a nearly square crop in the image of a similar flower that appears next in this gallery and I was looking for a different image this time.
