@ Chris: I often choose portrait mode when others might prefer landscape . In this particular case, there was an unattractive modern building to the right of the last lamppost in my image and a big gap before the next one on the left. I was unable to change my viewpoint without standing in the middle of a busy road and shooting through parked cars, so it had to be portrait.
