Giuseppe Fiorelli, archeologo ottocentesco e direttore degli scavi di Pompei dal 1860 al 1875, inventò un metodo per eseguire i calchi delle vittime dell'eruzione del '79 d.C. Senza soffermarmi su dettagli tecnici, questo metodo consente di rilevare l'impronta lasciata nel terreno dai corpi sommersi dalla pioggia di cenere, col tempo solidificatasi, e ci permette di scorgere le espressioni dei volti, le pieghe dei vestiti, le posizioni in cui i pompeiani furono sorpresi dalla furia eruttiva del Vesuvio. Ho scelto una foto "leggera" ma vi assicuro che ho qualche scatto a dir poco raccapricciante.
