Molto, molto tempo fa, nella provincia di Tango, viveva sulle coste del Giappone, nel piccolo villaggio di Mizunoye, un giovane pescatore chiamato Urashima Taro. Suo padre era stato pescatore prima di lui e la sua abilità era più che raddoppiata una volta trasmessa al figlio.
