La Silene dioica appartiene alla famiglia delle Caryophyllaceae. Il colore del fiore varia dal bianco al rosa intenso. Il nome del genere deriva dal greco "Silenós" Sileno, accompagnatore di Bacco, dal ventre rigonfio come il calice della pianta ed il nome specifico indica che la pianta ha fiori esclusivamente maschili o femminili. E' una pianta nitrofila comune nei prati concimati, ama gli ambienti umidi, da 300 sino a 2.300 m s.l.m. ed è presente in tutta Italia tranne che in Calabria, in Sicilia ed in Sardegna. Curiosità: in Carnia, la pianta viene usata nella preparazione del ripieno per un piatto tipico:"Tortei di voreles di lieur e scuete" ravioli di "orecchie di lepre" con ricotta. Facendo bollire la radice è possibile ottenere un sostituto del sapone. Scatto effettuato a Santa Caterina Valfurva nel Luglio del 2016.
