Nel 1983 il Maestro Pietro Annigoni, in memoria del padre Ricciardo, mirandolese di nascita (Mirandola 1870 - Firenze 1944), eseguì un affresco rappresentante la Crocefissione in una piccola cappella della navata sinistra del Duomo cittadino di Santa Maria Maggiore. L' immagine è stata scattata all' inizio dell' opera in un momento di pausa in cui Annigoni concesse una intervista al giornalista Sergio Poletti che io ebbi la fortuna di accompagnare in quella occasione. Inutile dire che l'affresco è stato pesantemente danneggiato nel sisma del 20 e 29 Maggio 2012 che ha fatto crollare completamente il tetto dell' edificio e ha lasciato per lungo tempo le pareti danneggiate esposte alle intemperie. Attualmente il Duomo è stato messo in sicurezza ed è stata approntata una copertura provvisoria in lamiera, ma i lavori di ripristino non sono ancora iniziati. Il Duomo, o meglio, ciò che ne resta, sarà oggetto della prossima visita di Papa Bergoglio in Mirandola Domenica prossima 2 Aprile 2017. L' ultimo pontefice ad entrare in Mirandola fu Giulio II, al secolo Giuliano Della Rovere, esattamente 506 anni fa nel Gennaio del 1511; non fu esattamente una visita di cortesia visto che per entrare prese a cannonate le mura della cittadella fortificata !!! Fotocamera Mamiya Sekor 1000 DTL con obiettivo 55 mm f/1,8.
